Mechanics
Starseed Types
Starseeds are a fragment of your characters soul which needs to be made whole. However, even in their smallest state, they exhibit traits that are unique to your character! One such trait is Starseed Types. There are different kinds of Starseeds which may grow and develop as characters reside in the game. These types experience mostly passive effects which may grow into other effects as the game progresses. Right now, they are be barely perceptible.
[ More on Starseed types...]
These types are naturally related to the base elements, and by extension, cardinal directions. Characters may notice these effects are impacted while they are in areas that resonate with their element. Remember that these effects are very subtle! They’re not going to cause someone to feel these effects in full...yet.
Fire aspected Starseed which is tied to the Northern direction. These Starseeds are alluring as a flame. When in harmony with warmth, they can draw out someones long-lost hope. Fireflare
Dark aspected Starseed which is tied to the Western Direction. These Starseeds provide reassurance. When in harmony with the night, they provide a feeling of reassurance to those around them. Shadowbloom
Water aspected Starseeds which are tied to the Southern direction. These Starseeds are as wayward as the water. When in harmony with the waves, they cause physical pain to ease just a little. Seashine
Wind aspected Starseed which is tied to the Eastern Direction. These Starseeds are in tune with their surroundings. When their Starseed is in harmony with the breeze, they exude a feeling of subtle happiness to those around them. Windsong
Those who do not wish to have a Starseed alignment - or in the case that none suits them - they can be considered Mirrorgleam. These are without alignment or elemental affinity. They will serve to amplify the power of the other Starseeds. Mirrorgleam
Prism Dust
Non-Selectable. Some things are yet to be discovered. This will be revealed as characters evolve.
Blood Ash
Non-Selectable. Some things are yet to be discovered. This will be revealed as characters evolve.
Starseed Manipulation
If you feel a bit spicy (not that kind of spicy), There are ways that others may manipulate their own Starseeds or the Starseeds of others.[ More on Starseed Manipulation...]
Starseeds are part of a person. They harbor powers and memories which belong to that individual. If one were of a nefarious mind they would be able to recognize that this could be used to tamper with memories, steal powers, and even brainwash some individuals.
Simple tasks like sharing memories/emotions can be performed after being in the game for at least 3 months. This will give the character enough time to, in theory, become used to the concept of Starseeds and have some experience with their own. More substantial actions like stealing powers or manipulating memories will take longer and may be judged on a case-by-case basis.
If you would like to look into doing something substantial like transferring a power from one character to another or taking memories away, please keep mods in the loop and submit a note so we can discuss the details.
To share/view a memory, The character will need to have the opposing character show them their Starseed and physically touch it. This will allow them to "pull" what they want from it. If the intent is to give someone part of your own Starseed by way of abilities or memories, the two Starseed must be visible and physically touch one another (😳).
Soulbleed
We mentioned that manipulating Starseeds can be unpleasant, but what does that mean? Well, there are a few side effects that characters may not enjoy. (Or maybe they will. I don't judge.)[ More on Soulbleed...]
Soulbleed is when characters abuse the ability to manipulate the Starseeds of others. This effect can be temporary, permanent, and can lead to permadeath if left unattended (always at players discretion, of course.)
Soulbleed will cause physical discomfort (ranging from minor to extreme depending on the case), mental confusion/disorientation, and characters will begin to see Shades of some sort of black creature. The creature will follow them, physically injure them, or can cause psychological torment. As the Soulbleed worsens, the creatures will seem to become more tangible and numerous. If you suspect this may happen to your character (or if you'd like it to!) Contact a mod.
Death
Sometimes it's just inevitable that characters die. What happens after?[ More on Death...]
Characters can die and regenerate ingame. Be careful as doing this too much can cause their Starseed to degrade!
Generally, Starseeds are stowed within a person and they remain unseen by the naked eye. If a character takes took much physical damage, or some other dire circumstances, the Starseed will abandon its physical form and turn intangible in order to give itself a chance to recover.
After some time has passed - about 3 days for the typical occurrence - characters will assume their physical forms and "live" again. They will suffer extreme physical pain for a couple days afterward. Their powers will be inaccessible for those couple days.
Permadeath
It is possible for characters to be taken out of the game permanently. This will not happen without player consent (or mod input in the case of a character who has not been applied to the game.) There are a few things you need to know about it below![ More on Permadeath...]
If the Starseed itself takes damage beyond repair, it will blink out along with the soul of your character. To accomplish this, a character will need to take an extreme amount of physical damage, pollute their Starseed beyond repair through external means, or come into prolonged contact with the Ebony Sea.
They will become unplayable in the game and be dropped at this point. They will also be unplayable by any other player in the future. Be very sure you want to do this before committing!
Starblooms
Starblooms are those rare individuals who have gathered enough Starseeds in order to become a "complete" person. What does that mean though?[ More on Starblooms...]
Starblooms are characters who have collected enough Starseeds to become their "truest" selves. For most characters this will be regaining all their abilities and for others it will mean collecting a certain number of Starseeds. This will, of course, differ from individual to individual depending on how many abilities they have to begin with.
This is where Normies can gain a (slight) edge! They do not have any powers to regain. In theory, this means that they would be their "whole" selves right out of the gate. But for the sake of game mechanics, it will be required that they collect 4 Starseeds to obtain the status of Starbloom. Those with a middling amount of abilities will need to collect 6 Starseeds and those who have a massive amount of power will need to collect 8 Starseeds.
As you can imagine, this may mean that characters with an array of skills may be allowed to gain more than 1 skill at a time in order to complete their roster of abilities.
When someone reaches the status of Starbloom, they will gain the ability to break the power cap in the game if there is a dire enough situation for it . This will only be allowed in the case that it would be awesome to have happen. (I know it's arbitrary but still.)
Starseed Bonding
For those who are very close to one another, or who form a bond through cultivated CR, there is a mechanic called Starseed Bonds. These are wholly at player discretion.[ More on Starseed Bonding...]
Starseed bonding can be for those who foster plantonic relationships, romantic relationships, or particularly deep hateships. This bond is nurtured by the feelings they have for one another and can even come as a surprise! It will only occur through strong feelings over a prolonged period of time ingame. (So even those lovebirds who apply will have to wait a little bit.)
Platonic bonds will boost both their physical disposition when in the presence of one another. It will also give them occasional emotional feedback at the discretion of each player.
Romantic bonds will allow each individual to have a vague notion of where the other person is while within a reasonable distance. It will also allow them to share emotions with one another, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
Hate bonds will give both characters a strange sense of determination while with one another. It will make them slightly more brazen and willing to fight.
The Sealing Gates
The Sealing Gates which have contained all manner of magic, mythical being, and whatnot are important in the game! Let's elaborate on them more and what your characters motivations could potentially be in regards to them.[ More on the Sealing Gates...]
Each Sealing Gate has sealed away one facet of power. Most people in Abystine have no idea that the gates exist or that they have sealed away anything within them. These gates could be the ticket home for your character, but it could also unleash something horrible onto a world you have left unguarded. Would it be better to destroy the gates for good and abandon what lies beyond rather than take the risk? Or is some chance at going home worth it?
